A House-person is required to work within a professionally-run executive home in Rosedale. The person will work as a member of a team that includes a Household Manager, Private Chef and housekeepers. This position is full-time and live-out. There is travel involved during the winter and summer months. While travelling, accommodation is provided. This position presents both challenges, rewards and opportunities for professional growth.

House-person / House Assistant's Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Household Manager in his daily duties, during meal service, and during household events 

  • Assist the Household Manager in the execution of special events

  • Daily walk through of the residence in order to identify anything that requires repair, painting, replacement, resetting and/or detailing

  • Running miscellaneous errands for the residence that will include such items as cleaning products, hardware, office supplies, flowers, etc.

  • Stocking and restocking fireplaces and replenishing wood stock within the home

  • Placing and positioning garden furniture as well as placing cushions, towels, etc.

  • Assist the housekeepers in deep cleaning projects that includes safely moving furniture or reaching high spots

  • Troubleshooting responsibilities that include Crestron®, Apple products, Mac and Windows platforms, printers/scanners, etc. 

  • Follow preventive maintenance protocols for the residence, which might include calling and scheduling of trades and vendors

  • In the absence of the Household Manager, guiding and supervising trades and vendors to make sure they understand the nature of the task and that they are following through correctly

  • While there is a Private Chef, this person might be occasionally asked to prepare a simple meal 

  • Table setting and service as well as bar setup for events

  • Answering the telephone and taking accurate messages and relaying them in a prompt manner

  • Securely responding to the front door

  • Accepting deliveries and making sure that they are placed in a pre-designated place

  • Always being mindful of household security. Discretion is a must.

  • Managing personal expense reports and doing monthly expense reconciliations

  • Maintain high service standards at all times

  • Being mindful of the Principals’ needs and practice anticipatory service

  • Always respect professional boundaries

  • Travel to the Principals’ other properties. This includes international travel and so a valid Canadian passport with no travel restrictions is a must. 

  • Assist in the management and care of valuables such as automobiles, artwork, and other valuables

  • Accomplish additional tasks, projects, and assignments, as determined by the Household Manager and/or Principals

Skills and Aptitudes:
  • The ideal individual is tidy, well groomed, active and health conscious, respectful and thoughtful

  • They should be quick learners so that they can pick up on the needs of the household and its Principals

  • The person should be a good communicator who is not afraid to ask intelligent questions

  • The person ideally has household experience or possesses skills that are highly transferrable to the role

  • Must have table setting and service experience

  • Must be a pro-active self-starter who has an eye for detail and a willingness to help others regardless of the job at hand

  • The person should be a problem solver who does not need to wait to be told

  • The individual should be aware of their environment and look for things that need doing, repair or adjustment

  • Understand that the importance of follow through with any task and see it through from start to finish 

  • Be able to answer the telephone and take accurate messages while making sure to not compromise any security protocols

  • As there will be driving and errands, being familiar with the city is important

  • Be open to last minute changes

  • Be comfortable with a non 9 to 5 work schedule

  • Be tech and computer savvy

  • Must be flexible with work schedules for occasional events

  • Confident with a strong service orientation

  • Gracious and handle difficult situations in a professional, calm solution minded manner

  • Strong ability to multi-task with excellent time management

  • Demonstrate pride and enthusiasm to fulfill requirements

  • Must be willing to travel either ahead of the Principals or with the Principals

  • Must have a valid Canadian Passport with no travel restrictions

  • Must have a valid G-level driver’s license

  • Must be strong and able to lift 50 lbs

  • Be willing and able to grow and evolve in the role

  • This is a non-smoking household

  • Must be prepared to sign a confidentiality agreement

  • Must hold current status to legally work in Canada
