Live-in Butler sought for UHNW Bridle Path area home in Toronto. The person will work as a member of a team that includes a Houseman and Housekeepers. This position is full-time and live-in with very comfortable live-in accommodations.

Position Title: Live-in Butler

Location: Bridle Path Area of Toronto

Live-in Butler Responsibilities:
  • General management of the interior and exterior of a large luxury residence

  • Security consciousness, technical ability and good cooking skills are the three key attributes sought by the employers

  • Willingness to be hands on 

  • Formal and informal table setting and service

  • Planning and preparation of family meals. The person should be a good cook ideally with a broad repertoire and the ability to prepare formal dinners up to 14 guests with a server.

  • Be prepared, on occasion, to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner. The emphasis is on dinner. The family eats early.

  • Preparing hors d’oeuvres for reception events up to 30 guests

  • Management of dry-cleaning and ensuring all garments sent out are returned safely

  • Assistance with packing and unpacking of luggage

  • Proper detailing of the residence so that items are placed and positioned correctly 

  • Maintaining care of household valuables like art, furniture, china, crystal and other special collections according to established care protocols

  • Stocking and restocking fireplaces and replenishing wood stock within the home

  • Placing and positioning garden furniture as well as placing cushions, towels, etc.

  • Assist the housekeepers in deep cleaning projects that includes safely moving furniture or reaching high spots

  • Facility with Mac and Windows platforms, printers/scanners, etc. 

  • Maintaining inventories of cleaning products, toiletries, and other provisions. Running errands or ordering to replenish stock.

  • Vehicle management to include taking vehicles in for detailing and service

  • Assisting in the management and execution of events. Caterers and serving staff are called in for large events.

  • Follow preventive maintenance protocols for the residence, which will include calling and scheduling of trades and vendors

  • Should have a degree of mechanical system knowledge in order to troubleshoot and liaise with vendors

  • Supervising trades and vendors to make sure they understand the nature of the task and that they are following through correctly

  • Answering the telephone and taking accurate messages and relaying them in a prompt manner

  • Securely responding to the front door and gate

  • Accepting deliveries and making sure that they are placed in a pre-designated place

  • Managing personal expense reports and doing monthly expense reconciliations

  • Maintain high service standards and anticipate service needs

  • Respect professional boundaries

  • Assist in the management and care of valuables such as automobiles, artwork, and other valuables

  • Accomplish additional tasks, projects, and assignments, as determined by the Principals

Skills and Aptitudes:
  • The ideal individual is tidy, well groomed, active and health conscious, respectful and thoughtful

  • They should be quick learners so that they can pick up on the needs of the household and its Principals

  • The person should be a good communicator who is not afraid to ask intelligent questions

  • Must have strong cooking skills and a broad repertoire

  • Must have table setting and service experience

  • An eye for detail and a willingness to help others is key

  • The person should be a problem solver who does not need to wait to be told

  • The individual should be aware of their environment and look for things that need doing, repair or adjustment

  • Understand that the importance of follow through with any task and see it through from start to finish 

  • Be able to answer the telephone and take accurate messages while making sure to not compromise any security protocols

  • As there will be driving and errands, being familiar with the city is important

  • Be open to last minute changes

  • Be flexible with schedule and willing to work on Sunday

  • Be tech and computer savvy

  • Confident with a strong service orientation

  • Gracious and handle difficult situations in a professional, calm solution minded manner

  • Strong ability to multi-task with excellent time management

  • Must have a valid G-level driver’s license

  • Be willing and able to grow and evolve in the role

  • This is a non-smoking household

  • Must be prepared to sign a confidentiality agreement

  • Must hold current status to legally work in Canada. Sponsorship will not be considered.
