Job #077 Experienced Housekeeper for Rosedale Residence

Seeking an experienced Housekeeper for a semi-formal Rosedale residence . This is a full-time and live-out position. The position schedule is Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, however, flexibility is required. The home is approximately 3,700 square feet and occupied by two adults and a puppy. There are no children in the residence. The position requires the applicant to go to two condos of Principals’ children to clean and do laundry once or twice per week. These are not large condos and will be easily managed. Applicants must have strong laundry and ironing skills. All applicants must hold current status to legally work in Canada. Sponsorship is not being considered.

Live-out Housekeeper Responsibilities:
  • General management of the home to include housekeeping, laundry, ironing, wardrobe management, pet care and some errands

  • Cleaning is done with natural products for the most part, with a few exceptions

  • Good laundry and ironing skills are essential

  • Following fabric-care guidelines so that certain garments do not go in the dryer, but are either hang to dry or laid flat to dry

  • Placing laundered or dry-cleaned clothes away in their designated area. Checking for loose buttons or garment repair.

  • Wardrobe management includes care of shoes

  • Bed linen is ironed either by hand with a commercial-grade iron or with a rotary iron (training with rotary irons will be provided) 

  • Experience with stain removal and care of fine fabrics

  • Cleaning and organization of closets, drawers and cupboards

  • Cleaning, organization of refrigerator that includes throwing out expired food items the day before garbage pick up

  • Management of garbage and recycling that includes breaking down boxes to fit in recycling

  • Management of dry-cleaning to include an in-and-out system so that items do not go missing

  • Keeping kitchen and appliances (large and small) clean and pristine

  • Thorough cleaning of bathrooms to include replenishment of towels and toiletries

  • Willingness to walk the dog and let him out. Feeding and making sure that the dog has fresh water.

  • Watching for window marks from the dog and wiping clean

  • Occasional meal preparation and errands to Summerhill Market for groceries (no more than two times per week)

  • Mail and delivered package management

  • Answering the telephone and taking accurate messages

  • Front door management and being mindful of security

  • When the family is travelling, keeping an eye on the home and making sure that it is secure

  • Keeping track of inventories and compiling a grocery list that includes food, cleaning products and toiletries

  • Letting in approved trades and vendors and monitoring them

  • Change lightbulbs and let the Principals know if you are unable to do it yourself

  • Notify Principals if something is damaged, not working and requires attention

  • Willingness to be trained by a longterm employee

  • Other related or non-related duties, as needed

Skills and Aptitudes:
  • Must have no criminal record

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a luxury residence

  • Ability to drive is an asset

  • Excellent laundry and ironing skills are a must

  • Ability to legally work in Canada is a pre-requisite

  • Schedule flexibility

  • Good English communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Be pet friendly

  • The ability to demonstrate an appropriate level of courtesy, integrity, respect and discretion is essential. A polished and professional bearing is expected.

  • Must be punctual and organized

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all household information and property. Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.

  • The candidate should be physically fit and able to lift 30 lbs.

  • If the candidate drives, they should have their own vehicle so that they can get to and from the residence

  • The ideal candidate pays attention to details, has common sense and the ability to execute and “figure things out” 

  • The successful candidate will understand professional boundaries

  • Willingness to stay engaged by taking on other tasks is an asset

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Must be willing to sign a confidentially agreement

  • This is a smoke-free work environment
