Cook - Housekeeper • Toronto, Ontario • Live-out, Full-time

 

 This is an excellent opportunity with a good Toronto family for a Housekeeper Cook position. The person would be working with a second housekeeper for the optimal running of a penthouse condo in the downtown area of the city. The person would be working for a mature couple with an extended mature family. There would be travel to and from a cottage and so the candidate must be  able to drive. The employer is looking for a right hand who they  can rely on and trust. It is a live-out and permanent position. There is comfortable live-in accommodations provided while at the cottage.

PLEASE NOTE: The position is only open to individuals who hold current status to legally work in Canada. Sponsorship will not be considered. 

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR COOK - HOUSEKEEPER:

  • Working with another housekeeper, general housekeeping, laundry, ironing, wardrobe management and some errands

  • Excellent laundry and ironing skills are essential

  • Bed linen is ironed

  • Care and maintenance of fine linens

  • Following fabric-care guidelines and to ask when in doubt

  • Hand-washing experience

  • Experience with stain removal

  • Placing laundered or dry-cleaned clothes away in their designated area. Checking for loose buttons, stains or garment repair.

  • Wardrobe management and seasonal rotation

  • Cleaning and organization of closets, drawers and cupboards

  • Cooking simple, clean and healthy family meals from cookbooks or family recipes

  • Table setting and service

  • Management of garbage and recycling that includes breaking down boxes to fit in recycling

  • Management of dry-cleaning to include an in-and-out system so that items do not go missing

  • Thorough cleaning of bathrooms to include replenishment of towels and toiletries

  • Watching for window marks and clean as they occur

  • Maintaining front door area clean and debris free

  • Mail and delivered package management

  • Answering the telephone and taking accurate messages

  • Front door management and being mindful of security

  • Keeping track of inventories and compiling a grocery list that includes cleaning products and toiletries

  • Letting in approved trades and vendors and monitoring them for security purposes

  • Notify Principals if something is damaged, not working and requires attention

  • Go to family cottage during the summer (likely from Wednesday to Sunday)

  • Clean son’s condo once per week (same building)

  • Other related or non-related duties, as needed

SKILLS & APTITUDES:

  • Must have no criminal record

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a luxury residence

  • Ability to drive is a definite asset

  • Excellent laundry and ironing skills are a must

  • Good cooking skills are a must. Preferred cuisine is clean, fresh, simple, Mediterranean-style food.

  • Knowledge and skills in the care, cleaning and maintenance of fine surfaces, antiques, silver, etc.

  • Ability to offer schedule flexibility

  • Good English communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Be dog friendly and not fearful of mid-sized pets that visit from time to time

  • The ability to demonstrate an appropriate level of courtesy, integrity, respect and discretion is essential. A polished and professional bearing is expected.

  • Willing to wear a basic, work-friendly uniform

  • Someone who is happy, personable and takes pride in what they do

  • Someone who has the ability to work independently and/or with others and not be told what to do once they know the weekly, monthly, seasonal and annual routines

  • Must be punctual and organized

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all household information and property

  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement

  • The candidate should be physically fit and able to lift 30 lbs.

  • The ideal candidate pays attention to details, has common sense and the ability to execute and “figure things out” 

  • The successful candidate will understand professional boundaries and understand the difference between being friendly and being friends

  • Willingness to stay engaged by taking on other tasks

  • The ability to provide a degree of schedule flexibility

  • This is a non-smoking residence

  • This is a no-perfume, no-scent residence

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
