Great opportunity for an experienced Household Manager who is a comfortable home cook to work in the lovely city of Kingston, Ontario for a married couple. The position is full-time, live-out and permanent and the couple is seeking a long term relationship. The family is informal and there is short-term travel between the main residence and a country home that is situated close by. The successful candidate should be child-friendly as there are grandchildren and dog-friendly as there are dogs. There is a full-time housekeeper, however, the Household Manager would assist in light housekeeping and detailing of the residence.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HOUSEHOLD MANAGER / COOK:

Keep home in a “state of ready” while maintaining standards that are required by the Employers

Daily walkthrough of the residence and exterior to identify items requiring attention and testing systems to make sure they are operational

Vendor management and supervision (interior and exterior) using pre-approved trades list
-
Proactive vendor management and booking trades in advance based on seasonal needs. Enter booked dates into the household calendar.

Informing employers if something is damaged, broken or requires repair or maintenance
-
Procure project estimates as needed and present for approval
-
Prepare healthy meals to include dinners and occasional lunches
-
Prepare “heat and serve” meals for the family on the Household Manager’s days off
-
Provide weekly menus
-
Prepare grocery lists and conduct daily/weekly shopping for food using preferred vendors
-
Assisting in planning, execution and meal preparation for events. A server is provided based on guest numbers.

Errands as required
-
Developing a par stock system for cleaning products, toiletries, lightbulbs, stationary, etc. so that items are not being over or under-ordered. Check inventories on a weekly basis and order accordingly.

Making sure the kitchen and pantry are clean, organized and functional. This includes regular cleaning and re-organizing of the refrigerator, freezer, cupboards, drawers and pantry.

Table setting and service as well as post-meal clean up

Feeding of fish and two dogs

Turndown service that includes replenishment of towels and toiletries in bathrooms

There is a full-time housekeeper, although light housekeeping and detailing of the home is expected as required

Organization of seasonal deep cleans

Management of garbage and recycling
-
Managing mail and deliveries
-
Review invoices for accuracy, discrepancies and compliance with estimates and present to Principal and Assistant as true, accurate and ready for payment.

Petty cash management
-
Liaising with key individuals who are office-based
-
Answering the telephone and taking accurate messages
-
Answering the front door
-
Travel to the family’s country home
-
Regular meetings with the Principal to establish the week’s schedule and priorities. Create checklists for the week.

Anything else that might be required for time to time

SKILLS & APTITUDES:

Experience working in and managing homes
-
A proven and comfortable home cook who has 3 years’ experience cooking for a private family

Experience with table setting and service
-
Grandchildren-friendly is essential

Dog-friendly is essential

Must be able to work both independently and with others
-
The successful candidate will have an eye for detail with an ability to see things before they are seen by others

This is a non-smoking and health-conscious household
-
Must have a valid G-Level driver’s license and a clean driving abstract

The candidate should have their own vehicle
-
Must have a valid passport with no travel restrictions
-
Must be bondable
-
Must be able to swim and not be afraid of the water

Must be willing to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA)

A collaborative personality is an asset
-
A willingness to ask intelligent questions is an asset

Willingness to “roll up sleeves” and assist others on an as-needed basis

Good communication skills (written and verbal)

While the residence is informal, the successful candidate will understand and respect professional boundaries

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
