Nanny Housekeeper • Riverdale, Toronto • Live-out, Full-time

 

 Seeking a full-time, live-out Nanny Housekeeper for a young Riverdale area family. The position is Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. The employee would primarily be responsible for the care, nurturing and wellbeing of a two-year old girl with a shared responsibility for a newborn boy. The ideal candidate has a true love for young children and is interested in developing a longterm relationship with the family.

 

As a secondary priority, the candidate will also be responsible for the general housekeeping of a 2,200 square foot home in the Broadview and Danforth area of Toronto. Laundry is required and cooking (following family recipes) when time permits. Otherwise the candidate will assist with meal prep.

 

A G-Level Driver’s License is an asset but not a requirement. The primary focus of this position is the children. Other responsibilities are secondary.

PLEASE NOTE: The position is only open to individuals who hold current status to legally work in Canada. Sponsorship will not be considered. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Caregiver / Nanny for a two-year old girl and (a shared role with mom) for a newborn boy

  • Be friendly and kind to the children and sincerely interested in engaging them in stimulating and educational activities

  • Occasional evening babysitting. The nanny will be compensated for their time over and above Employment Standards Act.

  • General housekeeping of 2,200 square foot home (3 floors plus a basement). There is a cleaning lady who comes once per week. This includes a daily wipe down of bathroom and kitchen surfaces and a daily sweeping or vacuuming of the main floor due to high traffic. 

  • Laundry and ironing

  • Bed linen is changed on a weekly basis

  • A comfortable home cook who can prepare nutritious meals. Family recipes will be provided. If time does not permit, cooking would be limited to meal prep.

  • Refrigerator management and upkeep / purchase of kitchen supplies

  • Eventually the employee will be responsible for drop off and pick up of children from school, activities, play dates, etc.

  • Prepare afterschool snacks

  • Errands that include grocery shopping. Shops are in walking distance. If driving is required, a vehicle will be provided.

  • Manage household inventories

  • Creating grocery lists and checking with the employer(s) to make sure that everything has been included

  • Use of an indoor step ladder to reach higher areas when cleaning and dusting while being mindful of safety

  • Organizing of closets, pantries, cupboards, dressers, and seasonal clothing storage

  • Seasonal deep cleaning of the residence

  • Sweeping and cleaning of patios and entry areas, summer and winter

  • Putting out and bringing in outdoor cushions, as needed

  • Watering of indoor plants as needed

  • Letting in contractors as required. Must be security minded and check with the employer(s) if the contractor is unexpected.

  • Answering the telephone and taking accurate messages

  • Answering the front door while being mindful of security

  • Pay attention to anything going wrong in the home (i.e. leaks, leaky faucets, HVAC not working as it should, appliances malfunctioning, etc.). Report these incidents to the employer(s). Report emergencies ASAP so that an emergency contractor can be called in.

  • Always maintain confidentiality

  • Be prepared to sign a confidentiality agreement

  • Anything else that might be required from time to time

SKILLS & APTITUDES:

  • Must be kind, compassionate with a happy personality

  • Be sincerely child-friendly and willing to engage and nurture children in a positive way

  • Must be able to work in a self-directed manner, but also willing to receive special instructions from the employer(s)

  • An ability to follow family priorities

  • Must have a minimum of 5-years childcare, housekeeping, laundry, and cooking experience in a similar style household

  • Should have attention to detail when housekeeping. Keep the home hygienic, sanitized and safe (for adults and children).

  • Knowledge of care, maintenance and cleaning of fine surfaces

  • A valid driver’s license is an asset but not a requirement

  • Willing to agree to a background check

  • Should be able to manage stairs of a three storey home (plus basement)

  • Should be able to lift 30 lbs

  • Attentive to anything going wrong with the household

  • Should have a good command of English (written and verbal). Should be able to leave notes for the employer(s) that are legible.

  • Should be an organized and systematic worker. For example, should not be told to clean the refrigerator. They should know it should be cleaned and re-organized on a weekly basis.

  • Be able to create checklists of duties to be done on a daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal basis

  • Valid certification in CPR and First Aid or a willingness to become certified

  • Must be calm and proactive in emergency situations

  • Must hold current status to legally work in Canada
