Opportunity for an experienced Private Chef to work for a family of three at their home in Guelph, Ontario.  There is potential for occasional meal preparation at the Principal’s condo in downtown Toronto. The position is full-time, live-out, and permanent. Benefits are provided.

 

The ideal candidate is a professional who takes pride in what they do and has experience working as a Private Chef and preparing nutritious meals using organic products. The position is also open to individuals with commercial experience as either a Sous Chef or Chef de Cuisine in a fine-dining restaurant.

 

The position is Monday to Friday, although flexibility is required based on family needs. The Private Chef is responsible for lunch and dinner. The Private Chef may be responsible for occasional breakfast preparation.

 

Applicants must hold current status to legally work in Canada.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently create organic and nutritious menus once the family’s palette is understood

  • Preparing lunch and dinner for a single Principal and two children who are with the Principal on alternating Mondays and Tuesdays as well as alternating weekends

  • Meals are nutritious. Red meat is avoided.

  • Menus are planned one week in advance

  • There is a wine cellar. The Private Chef should have a working understanding of wines and pairings.

  • Orchestrating larger events including provisioning, preparing food, ordering rentals, hiring service staff, etc.

  • Inventory management

  • Grocery shopping

  • Table setting and service

  • Maintaining an hygienic kitchen environment at all times

  • Ensuring kitchen safety

  • Adopting a “clean as you go” cooking protocol

  • Discard expired food items

  • Maintain composting

  • Organizing pantry, cupboards, drawers, etc.

  • Managing a “fridge program” on Fridays so that the family has access to “heat and serve” meals with the necessary instructions. This may involve packing meals in coolers if the family will be away from their Guelph home.

  • Deep cleaning of dry goods pantry

  • Deep cleaning of the kitchen and its appliances

  • Calling in the appropriate vendor for preventive maintenance or malfunctioning kitchen appliances

  • Be prepared to be of general assistance to the household staff team

  • Other related or non-related duties as needed

 

SKILLS & APTITUDES:

  • Ideally have working experience as a Private Chef, Sous Chef, or Chef de Cuisine

  • Graduate of a culinary program

  • A broad culinary repertoire

  • Must drive with own vehicle

  • A clean driving record with a track record driving in variable weather conditions

  • Experience with a barbecue

  • A happy, calm, and friendly personality

  • Not ego-driven, grounded, and do not require ongoing validation

  • Ability and experience in preparing nutritious meals using quality and organic ingredients

  • Ability to harvest a “kitchen garden”

  • Ability to plan and coordinate an event (rentals, flowers, servers, etc.)

  • An ability to pre-plan and anticipate

  • Experience with table setting and service

  • Must have an eye for detail

  • Must be able to work with or without direction

  • Be resourceful and ask questions when unsure

  • Good listening and communication skills with a good command of the English language

  • Must be child-friendly

  • Must be animal-friendly

  • Must be punctual and reliable and willing to provide schedule flexibility on an as needed basis

  • A polished and well-groomed professional appearance

  • Pride and enthusiasm for their profession

  • Applicants must be fully vaccinated

  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement

  • Must be legally qualified to work in Canada
