Seeking a full-time, live-out Household Manager / Cook for an elderly couple who live in the Bayview and Lawrence area of Toronto. The couple is in relatively good health. Both employers are fully mobile, although the Mrs. is showing early signs of cognitive decline. Mr. is still active in business. The couple is relatively formal and enjoy a peaceful home.

The position’s schedule is Monday to Friday, however times will vary according to needs. The Household Manager / Cook is responsible for lunch and dinner preparation and will be present during those times. The Household Manager / Cook should have some experience working for High or Ultra-High-Net-Worth families. The position does require occasional travel to Florida during winter months. Travel will be no longer than one week in duration. The position comes with a benefits plan.

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and be fully COVID-19 vaccinated. Applicants must have a G-level driver license and ideally own a vehicle.

Position Responsibilities:

  • General management of the household

  • Prepare appetizing and nutritious lunches and dinners. This should include items for the refrigerator and freezer for “heat and serve”.

  • Inventory management (food items, cleaning products, toiletries, etc.)

  • Vendor management

  • Proactively schedule vendors in accordance with a seasonal checklist

  • Review invoices for accuracy, confirm work has been completed to satisfaction and as quoted, and submit to the designated authority for payment

  • Create, maintain, implement, and administer all schedules for monthly, seasonal, and annual maintenance for the interior and exterior of the property while addressing all maintenance issues as they occur

  • Negotiate estimates for any work to be done. Submit estimates for approval.

  • Daily walkthrough of the property (interior and exterior)

  • Errands — grocery shopping and miscellaneous items

  • Driving the Principals to appointments (if own vehicle is used, the Household Manager shall be compensated for mileage in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency guidelines)

  • Staff management

  • Managing staff schedules including the cleaning service

  • Assisting with light housekeeping when required

  • Manage all construction, renovation, systems upgrade, and landscaping projects.

  • Ensure security measures and protocols are in place and the property is secure at all times

  • Helping to plan and execute events that include family and business lunches and dinners. Book servers if guest numbers require it.

  • Provide Personal Assistance that might include restaurant reservations, theatre tickets, etc.

  • Administration that includes maintaining records of invoices, contracts, employee records, etc.

  • Monthly expense reports and reconciliation

  • Manage care of valuables such as automobiles, artwork, and other valuables

  • Ability to travel ahead to Florida is an asset, and periodic visits during the winter season

  • Always maintain confidentiality

  • Be prepared to sign a confidentiality agreement

  • Anything else that might be required from time to time

Skills and Aptitude Requirements:

  • Household Management experience or equivalent

  • Must be a comfortable home cook who ideally has a culinary certificate

  • Ability to set and serve at the table

  • Experience working for an elderly couple is an asset but not a prerequisite

  • Experience working with Personal Support Workers is an asset but not a prerequisite

  • Must have G-level driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract

  • Should have access to their own vehicle

  • Ability to travel ahead to Florida is an asset but not a requirement

  • An ability to work well and collaboratively with others

  • Staff management experience

  • Should be tech savvy and able to help the Principal with the computer, email, virtual meetings, etc. Will require liaising with the office.

  • Must have a kind, well-mannered, and compassionate personality with a professional respect for boundaries

  • Must be comfortable with being hands-on and doing light housekeeping (there is a cleaning service)

  • Experience working for individuals with cognitive issues is an asset

  • An eye for detail to recognize problem areas (exterior and interior)

  • Practice preventive maintenance

  • Must be proactive and anticipate the needs of the Principals

  • Must be efficient at keeping records

  • Should be proactive and sufficiently adaptable to find “plan b’s”

  • Strong problem-solving ability

  • Should be an effective communicator (written and verbal)

  • Must be organized and able to multi-task

  • Excellent decision-making, prioritization ability, and able to receive, understand, and act upon instructions from multiple individuals

  • Must be calm and proactive in emergency situations

  • This is a non-smoking household

  • Must  be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and have a valid passport with no travel restrictions
