Opportunity for an experienced Cook Housekeeper to work for a semi-formal couple in North York (Bayview and 401 area). The successful candidate will be a comfortable home cook and be able to follow menus and recipes that will be provided on a daily basis. The candidate should also be an experienced and organized housekeeper with good laundry and ironing skills. Most clothes are sent out for dry-cleaning, so laundry consists of linens, towels, undergarments, athletic wear, etc. Occasional travel to the family country home. The home is located within the Niagara Peninsula. The successful candidate is able to work with instruction or independently. They should be energetic and take pride in what they do. There is a small and friendly dog in the home.

 

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 6:30pm (flexibility required with notice)

Applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and be willing to follow COVID-19 guidelines. A G-level driver’s license is required. Access to a vehicle is an asset. Applicants must hold current status to legally work in Canada. Sponsorship is not being considered.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

• General housekeeping

• Thorough cleaning of bathrooms to include replenishment of towels and toiletries

• Laundry and ironing (bed linen is ironed). Hand-washing of fine undergarments.

• Cooking from simple meal prep to full preparation of dinners based on provided recipes

• Care of fine surfaces, furnishings, furniture, and artwork

• Silver polishing

• During the summer, there will be exterior work placing and cleaning garden furniture

• Organizing clothing for dry-cleaning. List what is being sent out and check list against clothes being returned. Dry-cleaning pickups and deliveries occur twice per week.

• Check for loose buttons, stains, and garments requiring repair

• Assisting with seasonal wardrobe rotation

• Errands on an as needed basis

• Table setting as needed

• Cleaning and organization of closets, drawers, and cupboards

• Inventory management. Create shopping lists for food items, cleaning products and toiletries.

• Management of garbage and recycling that includes breaking down boxes

• Informing the employer of any items that need to be ordered or purchased

• Informing the employer of any issues like leaky faucets, marks on painted surfaces, etc.

• Watching for window marks and clean as they occur

• Daily maintenance of front door area

• Mail and delivered package management

• Answering the telephone and taking accurate messages as needed

• Front door management and being mindful of security

• Letting in approved trades and vendors and monitoring them for security purposes

• Closing duties that include turndown service, making sure all doors and windows are locked, drapery drawn closed, letting employers know when departing for the day, etc.

• Other related or non-related duties, as needed

Qualifications and Aptitudes:

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a luxury residence or equivalent

• Strong home cooking skills and an ability to follow recipes

• Excellent laundry and ironing skills

• Experience cleaning and maintaining fine surfaces, antiques, and furniture with a “do no harm” cleaning philosophy

• Table setting experience

• A G-level driver’s license. Access to a vehicle is an asset. Mileage will be paid.

• Ability to offer schedule flexibility

• Good English communication skills (verbal and written)

• Should be an organized and systematic worker

• The ability to demonstrate an appropriate level of courtesy, respect and discretion

• A polished, and professional bearing is expected

• Someone who is happy, personable, trustworthy, and takes pride in what they do

• Must be punctual and organized

• Maintain confidentiality and security of all household information

• Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated

• Willing to agree to a background check

• Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement
