Toronto-based family seeks a Private Chef for their Toronto residence and family cottage. The position is full-time and live-out. Travel to cottage is required (accommodation provided). The home is fast-paced, and the Chef should be able to pivot and adapt to changes. The Private Chef prepares lunch, dinner, and is responsible for a fridge program. They should be comfortable preparing both family-friendly and elevated food.

The ideal Chef has a background as either a Private Chef, Personal Chef, Sous Chef, Senior Sous Chef, and/or Chef de Cuisine. There is a Household Manager to whom the Chef will report.




SUMMER SEASON: Thursday to Monday

NOTE: Flexibility is required


Responsibilities Include:

  • The Private Chef will be expected to prepare either à la minute meals, grab and go, and / or “heat and serve” meals with instructions (a fridge program that includes snacks, baked goods, and prep for following day’s breakfast)

  • Create weekly menus in advance for both adults and children

  • Work collaboratively with the household manager

  • Table setting and service is required when numbers and the menu permits. If numbers are higher, the Household Manager will assist or servers will be brought in.

  • Provisioning, inventory management, and practise “first in / first out” fridge management

  • The Private Chef is responsible for cleaning (daily and regular deep cleaning) and maintaining the kitchen, appliances, drawers, cupboards and the pantry at both the Toronto residence and the cottage residence. This includes outdoor BBQs as well as a wine storage area.

  • Planning, menu planning, coordinating, and executing events in conjunction with the Household Manager and the employer

  • Relocation to the cottage during the summer. Accommodation is provided (bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchenette). The Chef can return to the city on their days off.

  • Removal of trash and management of composting along with other staff members

  • Occasional travel for family vacations

  • Other duties that may be required from time to time


Skills and Attributes:

  • Experience as Private / Personal Chef, Senior Sous Chef, and/or Chef de Cuisine is preferred

  • A culinary certificate / diploma is preferred but not a pre-requisite

  • Experience working for a high-net-worth family is an asset

  • Demonstrates respect for their work environment, employers, and work colleagues

  • Experience in proactively planning, organizing, and executing events

  • Comfortable providing menus for approval and accept constructive feedback

  • Must have a G-level driver’s license, a clean driver’s abstract, and be fully insurable. The Chef will ideally have a vehicle (mileage will be paid for work purposes). For the right person, access to a family vehicle for work purposes is possible / negotiable.

  • Be willing to follow family dietary restrictions and food preferences

  • This is a “no ego” home that suits a Chef who is open to feedback and requests

  • The Chef must be child and pet-friendly

  • Must be a clean worker with a polished appearance

  • Should be organized and not flustered by a busy household or last minute changes

  • The kitchen is open concept and a family gathering place. The Chef should be comfortable with this.

  • Willing to submit to a background check and sign a confidentiality agreement

  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and willing to receive boosters as required

  • Willing to receive their annual flu vaccination if required

  • The residences are scent free and non-smoking

  • Should be comfortable around water (while at the cottage)

  • Must have current legal working status for Canada
